The new McDonald’s Sustainability Report 2019

We conceived and designed the McDonald’s Sustainability Report 2019 for the third time. It was particularly important to us to develop a layout that is modern and appealing while reflecting McDonald’s key themes of sustainability, transparency and innovation. This year, the report is deliberately shorter to give the reader quick, uncomplicated access to the most important information. The reduced format simplifies navigation and helps to focus on the key messages so that all significant progress and goals can be captured at a glance.

The report has been given a new format for even greater clarity. Our design experts have developed a clear, structured layout that uses targeted visual elements to present complex content in an understandable and appealing way. Infographics, diagrams and concise key points help to ensure that even complex data and key figures are communicated transparently. The chosen typography underlines the modern character of the report, while harmoniously coordinated colors and a well thought-out layout offer the reader a pleasant reading experience.

A particular highlight of the new report is the innovative choice of materials: The paper on which the report was printed comes from recycled McDonald’s paper cups. This sustainable decision reflects McDonald’s commitment to environmental protection and resource conservation and sends a clear signal for the responsible use of natural resources. The use of recycled materials not only improves the environmental footprint, but also raises awareness of sustainable processes throughout the industry.

Despite the circumstances, the sustainability topics of the “What’s important to us” campaign are also the focus at McDonald’s in the coronavirus year. The 2019 Sustainability Report impressively demonstrates that progress and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. The innovative, minimalist design combined with the sustainable choice of materials makes this report a model of modern corporate communication and underlines McDonald’s forward-looking claim to communicate its environmental and social goals transparently.

On the back, we show selected franchise partners and how they are promoting McDonald’s sustainability issues individually and regionally.
